Carlisle B. Grisham Post 49, Department of Alabama, the American
Legion, is located at 124 Cloverleaf Drive, Athens, AL 35611. Use
the “Location” Tab above map and directions
Regular Meeting: First Thursday of each
month (except December), 7 PM.
| Above is the Carlisle B. Grisham Post 49, American
Legion building. It was constructed in 1999; however,
our Post has existed since 1920. It was re-chartered by
the national headquarters on December 23, 1929 and
re-named for Carlisle B. Grisham. Comrade Grisham was a
popular young man who lost his life in The Great War (WW
I). Since its beginnings, our Post has been an active
participant in the life and development of Athens and
Limestone County. We have for many years organized
programs for patriotic events and we promote Americanism
by organizing or participating in activities that
promote good citizenship, particularly among young
people. The American Legion stands for a strong America,
and there is no better way to bring this about than to
work with our youth and to help prepare them for their
role as future citizens and leaders of America. In order
to do these type projects we raise funds by hosting a
monthly Chicken Stew and an annual Pancake Breakfast.
More information about these activities is below.
